If your organisation holds personal data on individuals it is important that you comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. Most organisations that employ staff or use volunteers will fall into this category because they need to store contact details, most often on a computer. Even small organisations need to understand and comply with the law in this area and failure to do so can be a criminal offence and you might have to pay compensation. |
